Default Cigar lighter weirdness

The cigar lighter on my XKR works partially. It can charge my iPhone well enough, but if I plug in my portable tire inflator kit, that works fine on my Jeep, it does not power it at all. Similarly, I also can't get the heating element to actually heat up, not that I would ever use that.

I suspect it is getting insufficient voltage. I assume the problem can't be a fuse because power is getting to it. Any ideas?

Seen this once it twice before due to corrosion on the connection. The gentleman who owns BAT , a company that makes very high end vacuum tube amplifiers, once told me that the best way to clean a tubes pins is to repeatedly insert and remove. The friction does the job for you.

try inserting the connector and twist around, well you get the idea.

I suppose one could find a funny shaped male connector that will have difficulty no matter what you do. I've seen that too.

Hope it helps.

The connector as in the power source to the cigar lighter or the 12V plug of the tire inflator kit?

You need to look this up, but I am not sure there is an established standard for these adapters. Some seem smaller in diameter. Some are deeper then others. Bet these devices you are talking about don't reach the bottom of the plug and therefore have no power. Don't dismiss the possibility that your cigar lighter is not original, or that the socket was somehow replaced at some point because some accessory did not fit. Last resort is to find some adapter/divider/splitter that somehow makes this all work.

Guess I typed 2 fast sorry. I meant the receptacle itself, it the inside of the cylinder that holds the lighter element.

Glandaniel, here's one of the posts I referenced. I described it better in there.https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...hlight=Lighter

Glandaniel, You have to have the Key ON! before the Lighter will work...……..well it could be that simple!

Unfortunately, this issue persists even with the engine on. I haven't yet had the opportunity to try the recommendations given in this thread.
