cigarette lighter
So I went to plug in my iPhone last night to give it a charge while my wife and I went out for a night on the town, low and behold the charger wouldn't light up. Put the cigarette lighter back in, pushed it down and it wouldn't stay down. looks like there's no juice to the cigarette lighter. A minor annoyance but annoying none the less.
Anyone else ever come across this?
Any ideas?

Mine originally did not have power w/o the car being turned on (at least in the 'on' position), so during an audio upgrade, I had the lighter put on a constant power wire, so I can charge my phone during the evening when parked.
Hey Matt, thanks for the thought although it happened with the car running backing out of the garage.
Interesting to hear that the plug is only hot while the ignition is on, I always prefer a constant connection myself. My F150 has it and it's great for charging stuff while parked.
Thanks for the info, by chance where do you recall where you pulled that hot wire from? And how much of the center console did you have to dismantle to do it?

Check your fuses. Mine was "out" when I got the car. I replaced the fuse and it has worked well since that time. Your owner's manual has diagrams showing the layout of the various fuse panels in the car. I believe the one you need to check is accessible with the driver's door open. Good luck!

Good call guys, I was going to check the fuses... honest!
#14 was burnt out and it didn't burn out immediately upon replacing the 20amp fuse... so far so good.
Thanks for the tips.
This forum ROCKS!
P.S. I also learned while looking in the manual about the fuses that it's a "cigar lighter" not a "cigarette lighter", should have known!

Same happened with mine. It is easy to drop a coin or pen in the lighter receptical and blow the fuse.

I just bought a 2001 XKR and dropped a coin into the cigar lighter within an hour of buying the car. The cigar lighter worked when I first plugged my phone in to charge, but after dropping the coin into the lighter, it seems to have shorted out. However, when I checked the fuse card, there are no blown fuses. Any ideas on what else can be wrong with the cigar lighter? Is there some type of in-line fuse under the center console?
There was also a power-port option that could be installed in the glove compartment (I don't have the part number handy now). As I recall the part was very reasonably priced in the 2005 Jaguar options brochure I downloaded from somewhere but the last time I checked with some of the usual "discount" parts sources the price was pretty ridiculous. Moreover, did not seem all that convenient an accessory since you would need to have the glove compartment opened in order to access the port.

It is fuse #14 20amp on the passenger side fascia box
You are right- It is the passenger side fascia fuse box. The manual says 20 Amp on circuit 14. Which one is circuit 14? The fascia diagram seems to be the date the plastic cover to the access to the fuse box was made. There is no visible 14 to be seen. There are 3 or 4 yellow 20 Amp fuses there. I'd rather not pull all of them for concern about breaking one- they look delicate.
Makes me want to listen to Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" (which we do every Thanksgiving Day wherever we are)....
His live performance version of it these days is very different than the original recording....

The OEM part is available from the usual sources for about $40. Be warned, It’s a pain to replace— you need to take the center console out and when you reconnect there is very little slack on the wire. Not hard, just annoying.
