Clicking Noise from Torque Converter
I have a 97 XK8 that I just bought a couple of months ago. Recently I've been hearing a clicking noise coming from under the car. The clicks get quicker as I rev the engine, but eventually get drowned out by the noise of the engine. I finally got under the car yesterday with a stethoscope, and after poking just about everyplace I could reach, I realized the noise is coming out of the opening at the bottom of the bellhousing. I stopped the engine and found nicks on the torque converter. It seems like there's something in there banging against the torque converter, but it was too hot to feel around for anything.
Is there an opening to this area from the top of the engine. I dropped (and never found) a washer where the breather assembly attaches to the top of the throttle body. Could it have fallen and gotten lodged in there somehow? What else is in there that may have come loose?
The good news is when I first heard the noise, it motivated me to pull my cam covers and check my secondary tensioners. I was happy to find they had been replaced.
Link to picture of Torque Converter nicks (couldn't figure out how to attach the picture.)
Bonus link to picture of my secondary tensioners.
