Default Code RED: P0020 - RESOLVED

Hi,
I have a check engine code P0020 and I can't find where there is a list of Jaguar XK8 codes, so on Google (generic) it says cam position sensor or VVT, PCM or OCV. Can someone help narrow this down or is there a Jaguar XK8 P0020? I couldn't find one.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

P0020 Intake Camshaft Position Actuator
Most of the time, this code will throw due to a lack of oil pressure to the VVT unit. Have you recently changed your oil? These cars can be sensitive to oil that is not regularly changed, or putting the incorrect weight of oil when servicing. You may just need to change your oil and reset the code to see if it returns. That's the "good side" of things. On the bad side, you may have a faulty VVT solenoid, or a blocked oil port requiring removal of the front cover to repair. You can operate the solenoid by unplugging the connector and "jumping the solenoid using a 12 volt source, and listening for a click... indicating that it is trying to work. Just my two cents!

Worth checking the B bank VVT solenoid connector.

One more tidbit: If you energize each solenoid while the engine is running, there will be a detectible difference in the engine smoothness after about 5 seconds, if the solenoid is doing it's job and the oil is getting to the vvt. It's is possible for all to "sound good", ie a "clicking noise", but the vvt solenoid may still not be working. After comparing one that worked with one that didn't, I can see a difference in the basic pintle location in the valve. Both clicked strongly. I had an XJ8 in the shop like this just today.

Default Code Red Thanks

Thanks to all for your imput. I traced the problem to dirty contacts, (may have been loose too) I cleaned them, then greased with dielectric grease and reconnected, the world is beautiful again.
