Codes P0406 EGR, P1393, P1398 VVTs
My January 97 xk8 has a code p0406. I had previously cleaned the EGR valve and reinstalled. I tried connecting another used valve externally but got the same code.
Also, I get codes for the VVT solenoids. The VVTs are the older binary type. The solenoids are easily removed and operate when 12v applied. The ECM id is LJA1410AK and has been repaired by Automotive Scientific Inc.
The previous owner replaced the timing chains and tensioners. Also, he removed the breather pipe and installed blanking plugs on the EGR and exhaust.
With help much appreciated, any suggestions?
P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor “A” Circuit Low with EGR disconnected
P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor “A” Circuit High
P1393 Variable Valve Timing Solenoid A Circuit High Input, 8.9 ohms
P1398 Variable Valve Timing Solenoid B Circuit High Input, 15.8 ohms

Hello motorman, first of all thank you for your response. I already have the EGR delete pdf. The other two are new to me. I should have mentioned the engine starts and runs fine.
The ECM Replacement pdf concerns a malfunction I do not have. The ECM Flash pdf concerns "Difficult Cold Start" and requires access to equipment I do not have. Also, it only refers to a cracked EGR pipe.
Can I swap the ECM for a LJA1410CA? Will there be a problem with the immobilizer? I thought there was a flash specifically for EGR delete.

TSB 303-07A says implies so:
"
...vehicles with or without EGR can be equipped with the latest ECM part no. LJA1410CA.
"
Is fuse # F12 (10A) in the Engine Management fusebox OK?
If your VIN is prior to 011462 then it's possible that the EGR errors are due to the PO just deleting the EGR valve, etc.
edit: On further reading, something doesn't add up, as no MY98 car was fitted with EGR, and the JEPC shows LJA1410CA fitted from some point up to VIN 020733, which is well into MY98.
If that's the case, then LJA1410CA won't work in a MY97 car.
Perhaps the original 05/97 TSB would explain, but I can't find a copy on the net
