Default Computer Issues

I used to get an intermittent message that my Anti-Lock brakes, ASC, and Traction control was no working. I would stop the car and reboot and all would be well.

Not any more the messages are here to stay. Car runs fine and does sit a lot, but starts fine so the battery should not be the issue.

I read the post about cleaning the wheel sensors. Do you think that is the problem for all three messages??? All must operate off the same wheel sensors. I will try that fix and see is it helps.

Your thoughts??

That's the best place to start. It's easy, and free.

Darn, big disappointment, I took off the wheels, cleaned the sensors but it did not solve the problem. Still getting the same messages about the anti-lock, traction control and ASC still not operational.

Sensors were very dirty and contacts needed cleaning. Used a bronze brush to clean them. Thought this would cure the problem.

Back to the drawing boards.

I don't want to go to the dealer if I can avoid it.

Any suggestions????

Did you also clean the little cog thingy that rotates past the sensor? Brake cleaner works well for that.

Does the DCS warning come on as soon as you start the car, or do you have to drive it a short distance first? If it comes on as soon as you start the car, then I think you either have a bad wheel speed sensor, a bad connection between the ABS module and the sensor, or a bad ABS module, most likely that solder joint that is prone to breaking.

By the way, I got the DSC warning again tonight for the first time in 6 months or so. I have no doubt it's because of dirty sensors again. I have one sensor that seems to accumulate gunk for some reason.

Oh man, is that post full of golden information. Thanks a million.

I do need front brake pads soon also and was thinking that this might be the reason I am getting the messages about ABS, Traction Control and Asc not functioning. I only have about 40K on the clock so the disks look good, the back brake pads are good but the front pads are ready to be replaced.

My next step will be to trace out the connections on the wheel sensor wires to see if one or more and corroded or broken in any way. Before I attempt to dig into the ABS control unit I want to make sure all the easier options are checked out.

To pull that control unit do you have to remove any high pressure lines or any lines that will result in air getting into the brake system lines.??

Also what is the material that was used to reseal up the control unit box?? Will regular silicone work?

This is one of many products used to seal the unit Amazon.com: Permatex 82195 Ultra Grey 13 oz. Cartridge: Automotive As for removing the lines to have access to the control unit, yes you will need to remove them. I hope this helps!
