Connecting autoenginuity ....
I ordered the base module and add-on jaguar module and they should be here shortly. In reading the documentation that I already downloaded, I'm not sure about the correct protocol. The table indicates that for a 2004 (year of my XK8) I would use ISO 4191-2, but the XK8's were early adopters of the CAN bus architecture, so would I use CAN? Any experience with the software on a 2004?

Here's the connection screen on my AutoEnginuity ProLine with Jaguar Enhancement:

As you can see, it's connecting ISO9141-2.
No need to pick this. If the configuration for Vehicle Interface Type is set to Auto Detect .......

....... it will do it all or you.

It is not uncommon to find cars that utilise the CAN bus for inter module comminication that don't use it on the obd2 interface but rather use the older iso9141 interface.
All Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda cars from the 2000 era do the same.

Graham,
The AutoEnginuity base and Jaguar package is $500 here. Anyone else in Europe that wants one might have one of their friends in the colonies give them one for Christmas.

If I recall correctly, the 97MY cars are a little different than later years and require jumping two pins on the connector together to get it to communicate.

I remember reading about this issue when I upgraded my AutoEnginuity last year from an earlier version which was incompatible with the Jaguar Enhancement.
Checked with the manufacturer at the time and they advised it had been resolved in their later scantools and jumping the pins was no longer necessary.
I can't be absolutely certain this is right because the earliest Jaguar my current AE has been on is a 2000MY.

UK VAT is 20%.
However, the regular downside for us with imports from the US is UK 'Customs Inspection Fee' which is £36 ($56).

On some of the AutoEngiuity Proline pods units pins 15 to 7 need to be jumpered to work with pre-2003 Jaguar vehicles. I know because I had one of them.
I think they either provide an adapter now or have fixed the problem.
