Default Convertible not latched -Resolved

Picked up my “new” 2003 xk8 convertible today. During the prepurchase inspection the Pass side quarter window failed. it is now mid position. Tried to manually press window down but no go.

nice night so I lowered the top. I get a message in the message center that the “convertible not latched “ and a red light. The top appeared fully retracted so I assume this message is related to the position of the window. Also I noticed the top latch is still exposed and if I understand the owners manual this will retract when the top is completely lowered

window regulator replacement is on the “to do” list

any short term fixes till I get the regulator fixed?

Randy

the convertible not latched is the result of the latch mechanism not being stowed - when putting the top down simply make sure to hold the button until the latch goes into the stowed position.

As for the window - you can remove the relay and jumper to get the window to close - check the how to's in the stickies at the top of the XK8/R forum

Another possibility is the sensor which detects that the top is fully lowered. This sensor most work or the latch will not close. It's attached to the right(?) side hydraulic ram which raises and lowers the top.

Steve

Right on . Rookie mistake to be expected in first hour of ownership. I thought the top was down because it wasn’t moving. Held the roof down button some, more and the latch disappeared. No more warning message.

Got appointment monday for regulator repair

Randy - no worries - we've all been there at some point in our journey. Glad it was an easy fix and hope the regulator repair is an easy one as well
