The pump and reservoir are located behind the right panel in the trunk above the CD player. Fluid level can be seen through the plastic reservoir, max/min marks on the end. Fill is through a small opening at the top. Difficult to see, more difficult to fill. Will take a small hose and some way to pump it.

If low, you have a leak. It is a closed system and does not evaporate. Check the manual bypass valve, the brass 'T' handle in the side of the pump body. Closed if fully clockwise.

Close your valve and operate it as you would any other time it will purge itself. If you need additional information on the roof system go to my web page.

The bypass valve is only used when manually raising or lowering the top. I just wanted you to make sure it was closed. If open, even a little, the top will operate slowly, if at all.

Is the leak because of a loose fitting? Leaking hose? Other?

More common problem is a leaking hydraulic cylinder beside the fuel tank.

If you can't find the correct fluid, go to a VW dealer and ask for the VW/audi power steering fluid. It's $12, the label states CHF-11s fluid. That is what you need, you can't use just any type of fluid.
