Default Convertible top hook will not go down

Hi,

This week I've been driving an '05 that I'm considering buying. After the top is down, the latch in the windshield frame will not go down and a warning message appears saying that the top is not latched. Otherwise the top works and latches fine. How is this fixed? My mothers 02 has recently started doing the same thing.

Also there is no keyless remote. Can any remote be programmed to the car by me or is this a dealer issue?

Thank you for the help. I like to work on cars myself but will be somewhat new to Jaguars. Hopefully I will be a regular member soon!

Rob

The latch tends to bind on occasion. It happened to me a few times and I solved by spraying some WD-40 and working the latch a few times by hand.

. . . and, yes, remotes are available on eBay constantly. Not having one to get the part number from you are going to have to ask the dealer to determine that. There are 2 or more different ones for each year.

I paid $23 for one and sold one for $61 so the market value changes.

Programming the car/remote is a 5 minute job that the dealer will charge $120 for. Search on the forum or post back that you need the procedure.

My hook was doing the same thing last week, along with the warning message.
I sprayed it good with WD-40 and manually worked it up and down a few times as Seismec suggested and it's been perfect ever since.
