Default Convertible Top Not Regestering

My 99 XK8 roof is up and shut but the car is saying on the dash display that it is not latched. The back windows are still retracted.

I press the roof up/down button and nothing is going on.

Ive checked all of the fuses and they are fine.

Any suggestions?

Is there a manual release of some sort?

The first thing to try is to use the ignition key to lock the car doors. If you hold the key in the lock position all widows close and the convertible top closes. I had a similar problem with my car where the top would neither go up or down using the dash switch. The ignition key trick solved the problem and appears to reset the top opening/closing sequencing.

I had a similar problem. The roof was up and appeared latched, but the back windows were down and I got the error message. There are instructions in the owners manual about how to manually latch the top. I followed those and fixed the problem. Basically, you pull the cover out of the right side of the trunk and turn the knob on the pump to release the pressure. Then you take the allen key that's attached near the pump and stick it in the hole right above the mirror. By turning the allen key you can get it to latch. I actually had to unlatch it, push the roof up a little, then let the roof down and re-latch it. Once I had done that the sensor realized that the roof was latched and it allowed me to push the button to complete the process and raise the windows. It has worked fine ever since. Don't forgot to close the valve and put the allen key back in place.
