My 2000 XK8 convertible top will not close and the rear windows won't raise. I manually closed the top and even after the latch was secured, the windows won't budge. The top will go down perfectly, but will not close. I've checked fluid, searched for fluid leaks, swapped relays - can't find the problem. Any ideas - what else I should check? This lovely economy has seriously effected our business - I really hope I can avoid a trip to the dealership. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you saying that once it is opened (which works okay automatically), it will not even start to close if you push the button? Or is it that it wall start to close automatically but then stops somewhere along the way?

I have little experience in trouble shooting the electrical sequence of the roof operation. I do know that the system is equipped with relays, switches and a computer download and that is performed by Jag. Is your pump getting power to close? Go to my webpage and go to the Hydraulic hose evaluation and look for my operation schematic that is at the bottom. I would first check the relays (you say you did) second I would check the top raised and lowered switch on the right roof cylinder. I recently heard of a switch being out of adjustment and causing problem in the operation of the roof. I have been told that Jag at times needs to re-flash the programming to get the roof back in sequence with the windows. I will try to help but I am limited. Most important let us know what you find.

Perhaps the console switch?

Try operating the top with the door lock key.

Thanks Gus!! Great website. Will the top raise & down switch be inside the right quarter panel or inside the top itself? When I look into the quarter panel, I think I'm seeing the ram set from the roof cylinder but I'm not for sure. Thanks!!!

Gus,

Are you saying you haven't used your door key to open and close the top? That's practically the only way I do it!

This is embarrassing! I had no idea that you could do that. I worked so hard to gather information on the roof operation and I did not know that. Well what can I say! DAM!

Honestly, I didn't know I could open/close it that way. I bought it used and didn't come with owners manual. The online manuals didn't mention it. Is there a way make sure its the console switch? I have the console apart and it doesn't make sense to me why it would work to lower but not to raise - its all the same switch. But then again I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed either.

KeenStacey,

A switch is just that. It switches on/off, or one circuit to another. It just might be a connection somewhere and not the switch. Unplug the connector at the switch and plug it back in again and see if it starts to work. If you didn't buy the car new, someone may have spilled a liquid into it at some point. You can remove the switch and check it with an ohm meter also.

Gus,

ROTFLMAO!!

Tell you what Gus, there's a guy on Long Island who owes you thanks for your post on the throttle body wiring connectors. I sent him the link to your site today. Thanks from me on his behalf.

Thank You! I often wondered if my misfortune would help others.

I ran into a snag on the roof hose and had to go to another vender. So much for the Big boys! I think this guy may be interested in making the hose. It will amount to being near twice the heat and pressure ratings. I hope to have a hose in my hands that can be installed for a test. I hope to hear from him soon.

Will Let you know!

My old VW and Audi have this operation where you can use your key in the doorlock to open or close the windows. I believe it's a function to air out the hot air which has built up in your car on a hot sunny day before you get in.

On my XK8, I think the lock is busted, it only lets me close but won't let me open from the door lock.
