Default Coolant Expansion Tank Location

I have a friend with a 2000 XKR and I am not near the car, but he was telling me that he could not locate the coolant expansion tank location on his car. It appears to me it is on top near the rear of the engine on the drivers side. Is that correct or not. I assume it is not in a hidden location. I looked around the forum and did not readily see it- so where is it?

Thanks

Correct. It is smaller than most...he might be mistaking it for the brake fluid tank. It is in the back of the engine compartment, on the driver's side...almost in direct line with the steeering wheel. It is a small black plastic tank with a cap on it.

Thanks- That is what I thought when I looked a photo of the engine and my friend knows much about cars and I just thought it strange that he missed it. perhaps he was looking for a white one- but thanks for the quick help.

Default coolant recovery tank!

It is not the expansion tank he was looking for, but the recovery tank and that does not appear obvious- so where does someone find it or do you have a diagram or illustration. For the sake of what is best, would you add water/antifreeze at the radiator, coolant expansion tank or at the collection recovery tank or does it make a difference???

Thanks

The Atmospheric Recovery Bottle is well hidden!

Arrowed in red - it's behind the RH wheel arch liner.

The normal coolant refill method is through the Expansion Tank. As the engine heats up, excess coolant passes from the Expansion tank into the Recovery Bottle; as the engine cools down again this excess is drawn back into the Expansion Tank to maintain the correct level.
