Default Coolant Reservoir replacement

The float sensor in my 2001 XKR is bad and my coolant light stays on. SNG Barrat has the reservoir, part number MJD4400BA for $142.37 and they told me the sensor is included.

The replacement looks simple enough. Are there any issues with air pockets after I pull the old one and install the new reservoir? Do I just fill up to the bottom of the neck after install?

Anyone have any experience with this replacement.

Thanks

Gary

Change it and do this:

That's what I did. Gets the air out of the circuit.

I used a mityvac to siphon all of the fluid out of the tank before removal to reduce the mess. I don't suck on the siphon hose like my dad did. Watching him get mouthfuls of automotive fluids as a child left a lasting impression.

Make sure your coolant mix is correct 1st. I almost bought a new one until I figured out my mix had too much h2o in the ratio keeping it from floating.

I also just replaced the tank on my XKR. The sensor was included with it as well. However, It turns out that the sensor was not the problem. It is the float inside the tank that became sturated and would no longer float. When I removed the tank to do some other work I found the PO had shorted the sensor wires to avoid getting a low coolant error. Not the best solution for the small price of the tank! So your sensor itself may not be bad but you will still have to replace the tank.

I don't think the float detects the density of the fluid and only floats if the mix is correct. My float was not floating even with the correct 50/50 mix of coolant. Yet in the replacement tank with a new float it floated normally with just pure water. I think the float material just becomes saturated over time and just stops floating in water or the correct mix. (PS I did check and it moved freely)

Your sensor that plugs in the bottom was probably not bad. That system has a habit of the magnet falling out of the cork float that is inside and will there fore not activate the sensor. The sensor will then indicate low fluid. Almost impossible to replace the magnet in the cork float inside the chamber much less getting it to stay.
