Default Coolant seepage at top of water pump hsg. RESOLVED

Replaced the W/P and used the paper gasket incl. with the replacement pump. Vin. #-A30056 . The coolant is barely seeping at the 11:00 o'clock postition looking from the front of engine to rear. Upon checking the parts sources (SNG Barratt) diagrams and parts book, there are 2 different thickness of metal gasket listed.( .4mm & 1.5mm.) My original pump has 1 large o-ring and 2 smaller ones to seal this unit. Which is the optimum thickness and appears no o-rings are needed to seal this item and eliminate the worrisome seepage? HELP

I got a stock pump, plastic impellers, with the o-ring and the metal gasket that has the two openings on it with those each lined with rubber. Thickness of that metal gasket I have no clue.
I orig got the other after market WP and they just came with a flimsy paper gasket and that was it. No o-ring set up or the like. I was not comfy with that so I sent it back and got the oem setup water pump.

I just changed a water pump with the metal gasket. It was definitely not 1.5mm so I'm pretty sure it must have been the thinner one.

That is unless the measurement included the thickness of the rubber 0-rings, in which case, the 1.5mm is probable. Yup - there's nothing like a definitive answer!

Sorry.

Well it just so happens I have a new water pump gasket in my spares box - AJ83300 - just checked it with my digital calipers and it's 1.6mm. (across the metal, not the rubbers).

Quick update, Removed my A/M pump w/ fiber gasket (thankfully used Hylomar) and the old metal one came off also. I had just removed the rubber seals and thought I had the old materials removed. The A/M pump does not have the o ring groove so I re-installed the W/P with the fiber gasket and light coat of RTV. Refilled and ran until warm and pressure with no leaks or seepage. STEEP LEARNING CURVE!

Thanks for coming back with the end of the story. Good to hear it was a simple fix.

I've added 'RESOLVED' to your thread title to help others looking for the same answer in future.

you put on a pump that just came with the paper gasket and the pump? Hope it does not come back to get you. There is a reason I would think to why it was made with a Oring set up.

I'm really glad you asked. So it's not just me!

After ruminating for a while ... I'm thinking "Aftermarket". A guess is what it is.

AFTERMARKET, Not OEM, E-Bay vendor and searched for Lincoln, Jaguar,Thunderbird, etc. Metal impeller and appears to be quality pump; l Love that Hylomar! Use it when I want to be able to remove the part and not destroy gasket. RTV on part and Hylomar on the back side of gasket, hadn't failed me yet.
