Default Coolest - most important upgrades

Was curious what y'all thought was the first things to be done..

I'm thinking new suspension parts and/or Brembos... as most the other parts are in great condition.

But would like to hear your thoughts.

Cheers
DJ

of all the 'modifications' that i've done to my xk8, my top five would be:

1. WhiteXKR's convertible top module (opens/closes the top with your key fob)

2. throttle cable adjustment (and its free!) See FAQ

3. X-pipe in place of the center muffler (plus some new exhaust tips)

4. Tbirddmnd's replacement hood liner Hoodliners.net

5. XKR grille swap

I have to agree with H2O boy that whiteXKRs auto roof is by far the coolist mod.

All good suggestions so far.

While you are on WhiteXKR's site TheJagWrangler - Home - About Us check out his RealGauge product. Not a high wow factor for passengers, but very cool for the driver.

Modifying the side lights/leaper badges is a simple quick update as well.

Gee guys, you are making me blush

No doubt Avos' Twin Screw is the all time coolest mod, but you do need an XKR and $.

Slightly left-field, I wired one of these into my old car's ECU:

Still have the bits, is it be easy to get at the ECU looms etc to do the same for my XKR? It's a Defi HUD: the screen detaches and you can put a film on the windscreen if you prefer.

Best wishes, Colin

Replace catalytic converters. Since you're in CA, you would have to risk not passing smog. I don't have to re-smog yet, but I'll certainly post results when I have to do mine.

Replace the over the axle bend in the muffler tube.

Avos' twin screw kit (if you have an R)

on/off switch for antenna

remote top mod

Collin, that is a VERY cool HUD, let us know if you get it integrated into your xkr!

Tarheal, those wheels are stock for my car, 19" called 'Apollo' by jaguar. And, thank you for the compliment.

Those are OEM 19 inch rims. I don't remember the exact name. When I have enough money, I'm gonna buy a set of those for my XK8 'vert. Does anyone know if I can have a full size spare with those rims?

Yeah, those wheels are the best of the OEMs.

Anything Steve makes is a must-buy.

Hi there!

The wheels are OEM Apollo style.

With that being said, do anybody here ever purchased from Wheels Rims | OEM Alloy/Steel Wheels | Wheel Covers | Lights & Mirrors - WheelsRims.net?

I found the aforementioned wheels there for $197 a piece . I know about the website for more than a year. The span of their existence actually makes me want to believe that they're legit. Considering that there are no replicas of Jaguar wheels known to me it surely seems believable unless they're just turning the money around...hmmm
I'd definitelly like to hear from any members who have ever purchased anything from them and actually received alloy wheels instead of four plastic hula hoops at their front door .

Damn, at that price, I might actually buy them when I get the extra money from the scholarship, but alas, the timing chain tensors are more important. I'll leave that for the next tire change, since I changed mine a few months ago, this will be far from now.

I wouldn't purchase from them, last time I tried a similar online retailer (not showing actual inventory) took my money, and then told me they'd search for the wheels I ordered, only to have them call later or me follow up after weeks w/o fulfilling my order, and i had to ask for my order cancelled and refund my payment.

Stick with ebay, https://detroitwheelandtire.com/, OEM Wheels & Rims (Factory), and https://www.allfactorywheels.com/, they are legit sellers of wheels in stock, if shown on their website or on ebay.

Thanks H20boy! I thought it's too good to be true, but there's always this what if factor...until you get burned or bricked, hahah.
In any way, it's unreasonable to believe that they would not turn extra profit from such low availability items. Still open to hear from any member who actually received other then plastic set of rims from them .
Best,
Danny

No problem , I have a full size 20" Sepang for a spare with an omni-directional tyre (tire) fitted , no mods needed other than move the boot(trunk) board up to the high position ......... and you will need a longer wheel security bolt

Hope this helps ,

NikasilNik

PS Make sure it's a front wheel for a spare then it will fit all four corners , rear rims don't fit on the front of an XK

The coolest mods are rarely the most important! If your maintenance is in check, pretty much anything WhiteXKR makes as has been said. RealGauge is the biggest one on my list for this spring, as well as disabling/replacing the antenna.

Finding an aux-input for my iPhone using the stock stereo is on my ASAP list. I'm thinking about adding a yellow EU UK plate on the back behind my standard state plate. I'm also in the process of changing my half-green/half-red badging to all red (wheel caps received, hood growler badge later this week!), and adding H&R 20mm DRM spacers later this month- will post a thread when I get these done as well as a professional detail job inside/outside (I love doing this, but am cramped for time lately). I will upgrade the wheels to 19-20" OEM+ on my next tire interval which will be another year or two.
