Hey everyone... I live in Dallas so at this time of year, the fans on my 98 XK8 usually run on high all the time and typically for a couple minutes after she is parked. I noticed that they stopped running all together when I had her out for a putt the other night. The water temp got high but i was able to get some air through the engine and get her home. The last time this happened, I changed one of the 30 amp fuses in the box under the hood and it was good to go until now. Both of those are good and every fuse I see related to the fans is good. I ran it for a bit tonight with the AC on and neither fan came on. I am guessing that means both fans have kicked it and I need to replace the unit. Can someone tell me if my assumption is right or am I missing something? THANKS
I've moved your question from US Southwest Region to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.
Technical questions are best posted in the relevant Model forum. Those with geographical relevance such as shop recommendations or meets should go in the Region forum.

Firstly - apologies if I spelt your name wrong. That's a tough one.
It's unusual for both fans to break down at the same time. You've checked the fuse, but what about the relay module. See excerpt below from my Electrical Guide. Not sure if you know how to check relays, but there's plenty of Youtube videos on the subject. I would start there (maybe "jump" it) and maybe check that the 2 fans work by directly putting 12V into them. Again relatively straight forward.
I also live in DFW and recently resolved my fans constant running on high by replacing the coolant temp sensor. It was a cheap fix. I didn't have my fans quit altogether though.
What does your OBD reader show as coolant temp while all of this is going on? Mine was reading upwards of 230° before replacement, and around 205° afterwards.
OK everyone... Thanks for your replies so far. I replaced the Cooling Fan Relay... Since I have money to burn on this car i bought a new one. I checked both 30 amp Fuses in the engine compartment fuse box again and they are both good. The fans are plugged well... I think i heard the new relay click but neither fan starts up when I drive it around with the AC CRANKED and after a while, the water temp climbed up from it's normal spot. The only code i have is the P1000 code that is always there.... SO I am assuming the fans are shot... Just wondering if I am missing anything? I am going to take the fans out this weekend and play with them. See if i can test them.
Unusual but not impossible for both fans to die at the same time.
You can check for continuity across the fan connectors, then apply 12V to see if the fan will spin up when directly powered. Note they draw a lot of current, hence the 30A fuse.
Check F12 (10A) in the engine management fusebox first as it powers the fan control relay module (and also the CCV in US cars).

Thank you all again for your help... it just so happens that it was both fans that were shot. I am assuming that the slow speed fan was out for a while and the high speed was doing everything.
I got a used one and it is quiet as a whisper. You can hear the roar of her engine a bit better.
Have a good one and we will talk again in a week when something else goes wrong with her. SHE IS LUCKY SHE IS SO PRETTY!
