Default Cosmetic Mods opinions sought

Hi - my XK8 already had the leaping Cat mascot on the bonnet/hood when i bought it - i don't mind it - your thoughts?
Also it has the lowered front (UK) number plate reg - which looks good too.
I was thinking to remove that and have a front stick on one ( like the E-Type)
Opinions?
Cheers.

It's your car and it's entirely up to you what you do with it, so don't feel compelled to do what is right or wrong according to the rest of us.

However, if you would like an opinion.......... When all other Jags had a leaper as standard in the 1960's, the E type didn't. My view is that as the true successor to the E Type, I would keep the lines clean.

I like the sound of the number plate and would be interested so see one. Is it legal on a modern car? I don't know, but I have seen them on the MX5.

Well that's my two penneth, lets see what others say.

It contravenes UK Construction & Use Regulations, Section 60:

60. Fixing of registration plate
(1) (a) Where a vehicle has been so designed that a space has been provided for the fixing of a registration plate, the plate shall be fixed in the space so provided. ( Where a space is not provided the plate shall be fixed in the manner specified in paragraph (2).
(2) Subject to paragraph (3), a registration plate shall be fixed vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practical at the front and rear of every motor vehicle in such manner that the characters of the registration mark shall, at all times, be visible from the front or the rear of the motor vehicle.
(3) No registration plate shall be fixed in the front of a trailer.
(4) Where a trailer or a semi-trailer is drawn by another vehicle, the registration plate of the drawing vehicle shall be fixed on the back right-hand side and that of the trailer or semi-trailer on the back left-hand side of the trailer or semi-trailer.
(5) A registration plate shall be fixed at a height of not more than 1.5 metres from ground level.

It is therefore illegal. That being said, you are unlikely to be stopped and at least one UK member has had his registration fitted like this for some time with no trouble.

I have the licence plant e-type style on the nose and have for 3 years (for a pic see posr #144 on this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-17/where-did-you-drive-your-xk8-r-today-77347/page8/.) As you will also see from my sig pic I was invited by the police to speed awareness training, using that numberplate and the poice said nothing.

regards

I moved the badge and its atached with double sided tape. I just think it looks better that way.

the hole on the nose needed filling.

I got the adhesive plate from craigsplates just search on google.

I like the leaper but mine was modified so I could install with badge tape. I've had it on, and off. I really like it if its customized to match the car color. Or even the adamesh titanium color. (Out of stock right now)
At being said, I do prefer the leaper only if the badge has been moved to the grille. It looks redundant IMO when the badge and leaper are so close even though early jags had both as well!

Well, it looked better in person in black! Hard to photograph. And the color now is a dark brown metallic that photographs black most of the time.
The brown looks much better with the chrome accents.

Since the front bumpers of our cars tend to get road rash, it's easy enough to get repaint and and fill the badge holes, then move badge to leaper holes on bonnet. Lot cheaper than having bonnet holes filled and painted. And a new front nose cone in the bargain!!

See staying on topic!! Lol
