Default Coventry Hornet 18X8.5 5-120.65 OFFSET question?

Hi!
Gents, I need an advice in regard to the Coventry Hornet set of wheels I am intending to purchase for my 1999 XK8.

I am truly confused by the offset here. Btw thank you, ugame, for the calculator featured in Opinions on black rims for my 97 XK8...I understand that more offset (30mm over 20mm) would put me closer to the wheel well liner, and with my stock 17" revolvers on my 99 XK8 @ 33mm I should still have enough clearance for 245/45/18 on new Coventry's. However, I'd like the wheels to be more flush with outer body line hence pondering 20mm offset.

I'd really appreciate if someone could point out any shortcomings of such decision.
Thank ya'll,
Danny.

I just put on the Coventry Whitley wheels on my 98 and used the wheel configurator on their web site. On the xk8 and r and for both hornet and whitley it calls for the 20mm offset. Also the width of your revolvers is 8" and the coventry is 8.5". I think the 20mm offset makes up for the 1/4" on inner and outer width...centering the wheel.....and according to coventry's site the 30mm fits the xj8 and r.

When I purchased mine I didn't want to take a chance on incorrect fitment as I was getting a wheel and tire package online.

Thank you for your prompt response, Itspec60. The proper reasoning that I was looking for indeed .

Btw, I was going to purchase from discountiredirect.com because they list 5x120.65 or 5x4.75 spacing but then I came over listing on eBay which would save me over $100. The difference between the two animals is the spacing in eBay listing is 5x120.7 which results in .05 difference.

Do you think that such a difference is neglectable or perhaps a typo . I contacted the seller for details, but yet have to receive any response...

Best,
Danny.

Hey there, Marsden.

Here's the link:

When I did my research before buying I found that no one, be it ebay or discounttire or the listed dealers on the coventry site kept these wheels in their inventory. On the coventry web site you will find the inventory for the US. AS of this writing there are 2 wheels like you are looking at in the US. I suggest when placing your order you talk to someone in person. BTW...the same wheel in chrome is plentiful.

I would bet discount tires would price match. go to a store and talk to them

Thank you all, guys! The price match is a valid idea but the only difference between discount tires direct and eBay would be around $20....the rest is taxes and shipping which is not part of price match policy . Either way, really happy to have found this community.
Thank you all for feedback!

hi danny and brihawk. visiting from over on the xjs board.
i was also looking at the coventry wheels, both styles. but i'm wondering how much they weigh.

have you come across any specs as to the weights at the 18x8.5 (or the 17x8) size?

Hi there, DrScientist.
Interesting question...never thought of such quite interesting detail. Found one listing on Amazon of 18" x 8.5 version rated at 29 pounds each...
Coventry Wheels Hornet Series Silver Wheel with Machined Lip (18x8.5"/5x108mm) : Amazon.com : Automotive Coventry Wheels Hornet Series Silver Wheel with Machined Lip (18x8.5"/5x108mm) : Amazon.com : Automotive

I could weigh one for you once I get them but so far it seems that it'll take more than 15 days. Theres's definitelly an abundance of chrome version over the silver one out there .
Anyway, hope this works for now...wonder how heavy are the stock 17" revolvers?
Best,
Danny

The weight of each wheel was on the shipping documents.
I'll see if I can find them.

thanks guys!
dannyS: sorry to hijack your thread. some of us XJS guys are always a bit weight conscious, pushing around 2 tons with <300hp.

i really do like the whitley. be sure to show pics when you get them on!

Default Need help in regard to correct offset for 18" Coventry Hornets O.O

Hello gents.

Beautiful wheels, Brihawk! . The car gains totally new, noble character to it...
I really need your help, guys, in regard to Hornet's that I currently purchased. I got a call from the wheel company rep telling me that I need offset 30mm per Coventry despite of tips within this thread suggesting otherwise. I need to call him back whether demanding 20mm or 30mm set . Mind you, I already have a set of 245/45/18 Michelin Pilot's waiting to be put on...I know that my Revolvers were offset @ +-33mm. Now, Hornets appear to mount the wheel hub a bit deeper then Revolvers so I thought I'd rather keep them a bit further... Any suggestions is valued as gold...virtually, of course .
Thanks in advance.
Danny.

dannyS

I've looked for paper work but i think it's been filed in the trash where all large bills go before the wife sees them.
I ordered my wheels through Wheel warehouse California, and they sorted out the offset I needed.
I think the difference may be that the rear wheels are dished where as the front aren't .
I'll see if I have a picture that shows it better.

Brian

to DannyS...I was using information on the offsets at www.coventrywheels.com. If you go there and use their fitment guide you'll see for an XK offset is 20mm for both model wheels.
