Cruise control kills the battery when parked
Title says it all, just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue. I have enjoyed a trouble free couple of months with the 02 XKR until after a drive and stop at the market I left the cruise control button on the shift gate in the up or "on" position when parked. When i came out of the store about 30 minutes later the car would not turn over. A check with the volt meter (yes i still carry my volt meter and some other basic diagnostic tools with me in the trunk) showed that the battery voltage had dropped to 12.2V. A jump start from a buddy who lives close by was good to get me started again. I confirmed that the charging system was functioning normally when the engine is running. A driveway test the next day confirmed it is the cruise control draining the battery when left on and with the engine off. I haven't begun the process of tracing out the circuit or actually measuring the voltage drop, i will have some time to dig into it this weekend. I just thought that i would ask around to see if anyone here had experienced a similar problem.
Have you topped up the battery since the discharge, other than driving the car? If not, give the battery a thorough recharge, then test again. An extensive range of mysterious problems is associated with undercharged or faulty batteries.
