Default Cruise control problem

2003 XK8. 45,000 miles. Driven at least every 2-3 weeks.
The other day the cruise control would not engage at about 30 mph.
Tapped the brake pedal a few times and the Cruise Control started working. Have had that problem on other vehicles due to a faulty or mis adjusted switch.
Few minutes later on the instrument panel got a yellow light and a 2 messages; Cruise Not Available, and Check Rear Lights, and Cruise Control shut down. These were alternating every 2 seconds.
Tapping on the brake pedal did not eliminate the no CC problem.
Stopped the car and checked the rear Lights which were off.
Shut off engine, counted to 20, then started engine. Fault was gone and CC worked again until I arrived at destination.
This is a regular occurrence now every time I take the car out.
Questions.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Does the CC have its own switch in the brake circuit, and if so, where might it be?
My thoughts are the problem is the switch, but maybe not since tapping the brake pedal when fault appears does not correct it.
Appreciate any help

Thanks
Jack

"Cruise Not Available" and "Check Rear Lights" almost always indicate a failing / faulty brake pedal switch assembly. The absolute best fix is to replace the two microswitches in that assembly with new, better ones (which involves some precision soldering work)....

Thanks Jon 89
I'm an expert at precision soldering!
Any suggestions as to where to order these switches?
Thanks

Quite a few of us get our replacement microswitches from www.mouser.com.
