Arrow Daily Use Of The Convertible Top Is It Safe To Do This ?

I just aquired an XKR last week and I love it. I love dropping the top. With that being said I like doing everytime I get into the car. But I understand some members have problems with the hydraulics that opens and closes the top. Would daily use cause a problem ? Has anyone not had a problem ? Please advise. Thanks

Daily use is not so much an issue as the design weaknesses of the system. Many have had leaks but they appear to be based more heat deterioration and pressure spikes than number of cycles.

Check the FAQ above for complete discussions on the issues and what appears to be the current solution.

You have a 2006 which, presumably, should still be under some warranty--either the balance of the original 48 month one of an extended Select Edition (if the previous owner had that). So you might be better off by using the top as much as possible to see if any problems develop.

Better yet, Gus and Walt (who regularly post here) came up with a gizmo that addresses what appears to be the primary cause of the hydraulic problems. Namely, excessive pressure above and beyond what is really needed to activate the opening/closing operation. It would be a good idea to install one of these to greatly reduce the potential for problems.

Unable to say your roof is just fine, chances are it is. We have several posts on the subject and one that addresses the pressure relief valve that Walt designed. You could if you wish to go to my page and read my posts on the roof failures and suggestions to make repairs and modifications. If you wish you can ask questions after you review the past posts and we will do all we can to help.
