In searching for a new dash squeak, removed the center dash panel. Came out pretty easy, but appears someone used some type of black sticky "stuff" to glue the four clips that hold the panel to the dash. I finally got the four clips off of the center panel and thought before I try to figure-out what to use to hold these clips in place....ask the Forum...what have you guys used??
Sounds like your clips have made the holes in the dash bigger?.
The clips have 'soft rounded features' that detent behind the dash wall.
Could you open out these rounded features a little more with a screwdriver so they are more secure within the bigger holes?
Difficult to explain in text but the clips are described by John Dee when you Fast Forward 6:00 minutes into his vid.
Yeah, I did watch that. Issue with my Jag is this "stuff" that someone used to secure the clips in place. It is like a sticky putty. It is all over the clips. I ended-up re-using this "stuff", spread it out on the back of each clip so that this holds the clips to the dash. It sort of holds...the panel is out so not flush with the other two panels. Oh well...such is life right.
When you remove the centre panel, you should expect to find two metal clips, one on each of the lower lugs. The upper lugs will leave their metal clips in place in the dash itself. You need to remove the metal clips from the centre panel and push them back into their holes in the dash. They should just push in and be held by their sprung sides This will allow you to refit the panel correctly by inserting the upper lugs first, followed by the lower ones.
