Deck Lid Support Struts

Deck Lid Support Struts
I have a couple of questions regarding the Deck Lid (Trunk Lid) support struts. I think mine are weak, but I’m not sure. When I press the release button, you cannot even tell if the lid is unlatched. And, the strong winds here caneasily blow the lid closed! Believe me, that is NOT a pleasant experience if you happen to be leaning into the trunk for something!
So, how does your lid behave? When you press the release button, does the lid open all the way to the vertical position, or just part way? If only part way, how much further do you have to raise it before is springs up to the vertical position?
Thanks in advance; I don’t want to replace the struts if whatI’ve described is normal.

Mine only opens an inch or so, regardless of whether I have used the button on the plinth or the key fob. It must be raised to full position manually. However, once opened all the way, it remains in position very well.
No issue of it closing in breezy conditions. Don't know about heavy gusts, but suspect it would take a pretty strong blow.

My wife's XK8 behaves exactly the same way as Mike described above. I believe that is normal behavior....
However, my S-Type's trunk lid has always sprung completely open to the fully-raised position whenever any of the trunk release buttons are pressed. It's counter-balance design must be much more efficient....
Different models, different degrees of normal behavior....

Normal on the XK8/XKR.
On the later XK, the release unlocks the tailgate a similar amount but it then opens fully by itself if lifted approximately another six inches by hand.
I recall reading Jaguar's explanation for the luggage compartment lid on the XK8 not fully opening by itself. It's to prevent anyone getting hit on the chin by it. Seems they never considered John's problem of getting hit on the back of the head by it on the way back down!

Hello, my 2001 XKR does exactly as described. My lid opens and is just barely above fender line and is quite heavy to actually push up, as far as coming down for closure never had a problem with that, seems normal.
Let us know how the new struts work, what the difference is.
Good Luck and
Happy Motoring...
