Does anybody know of a dog guard I can buy for my '98 XK8 coupe? I'm in the UK.
Annoyingly the normal ones can't be used because the headrests are part of the chair back ( incase there is more than one type, here's a pic ):
Alternatively any ideas on getting something custom made? I assume such a thing would be relatively straightforward for somebody with the skills, but I wouldn't know who to ask.
Yes that's the sort of thing, but for behind the front seats to stop them coming through to the front through the gap.
My trouble is finding something that I can install in the car without a normal headrest to fix it to and it would need to be able to open or remove it easily to let the dogs in and out.
It might be best to fix something semi-permanently to the drivers seat to block the gap in the middle but not the passengers seat ( as the seat would block the dogs ), allowing the dogs in and out with the passenger seat down. But how to fix it to the seat is the problem.
Or something like this, but again, there's nowhere to attach the top:

Google "automobile metal wire dog barrier" and see what turns up for the UK. That is how I found the appropriate dog barrier I was looking for last year for our Subaru Outback. Plenty of styles and connection options to choose from. After an hour or so of research, I found exactly what I was looking for and it has been just about perfect for our needs....
get a seat belt tether - it connects to the dog collar like a leash but then has an insert that goes into the seat belt and keeps the dog from moving about freely.
I use one for my Great Dane - works like a charm
I too use a tether on a harness around the dog. Would Not advise connecting harness to collar.
Interim idea: leash on dog. Dog put in back. Route leash behind driver seat, into driver's lap before fastening seat belt.
Now when dog tries to walk up front, they have to "move" the driver's seat (it's a crude block and tackle but much easier on you). Small tug from driver repositions dog.

Hope it works for you. Nothing like a large dog trying to sit in your lap when driving somewhere. We use tethers and harnesses on our two 30 lb dogs. Hopefully it will keep them in place should we get in to a fender bender.
