Question Door fastener rivets/studs/plastic things - where can I find the right size? 2000 XK8

I tried to buy them from Dan Wicker, Parts Manager at Nalley Jaguar dwicker@nalleycars.com (very helpful and free shipping above $25) - but as you can see below, the black ones I got are too thick, you can get them to fit into their female counterparts, with a hammer. So no pulling out once you go in :S Which would make door panel removal very difficult and risk breaking the plastic fixtures they slot into.

Does anyone know where I can find better fitting rivets?

Someone said on another post they just went to a (don't know the US name) generic car parts store, rooted through their fir tree fittings and found identical ones.
Wish we had such things in this corner of France.

I recall reading the same post but didn't register the supplier details because we don't have the equivalent in the UK.

Part numbers on the last packets of XK8 door fixings I got were:

KTC100017 : Push-in Fir Tree Clip
KZV100010 : Friction Bush

Both are cream coloured.

There was a larger black Fir Tree Clip used on the front corner of the X300 front door top roll. Any chance they've supplied this by mistake?

I bought some on line for another car at clipsandfastners.com. They don't list Jaguar but you can match size.

Our local Pep Boys sells an assortment of these types of plastic fasteners. Advance Auto Parts and Autozone probably do as well....

This might help.

I had the same search going on and gave up.

The Auto Zone chain carries a bunch of different sizes but nothing is an exact match and as you have experienced most are too large in diameter.

I got creative and ended up removing the female part of this type connector from the steel in the door and using a Fir type fastener that matched up with the existing hole in the steel door skin and it has worked well.

It is worth spending the buck or so for the correct fasteners GGG identified from a dealer.

If they are too tight, removing the door panel again can cause damage to it, if they are too loose the door panel will vibrate or come loose.

There are a a lot of close but not exact matches out there that will just cost more in time and hassle.

I agree, you need to get the tolerances exactly right. Jagbits has the fasteners male and female for about a dollar each

Default Update on Jag Bits price

Currently these fir tree posts are going for $3.95 each and they are black instead of cream colored as mentioned earlier in this thread.

I was the guy who posted that thread a while ago about getting generic ones in AutoZone or local car parts store and cutting to size. Barry has a great point if the diameter of the fastener you gets solid center section is too large. I think the main point is you can cut / shape these things aggressively. As I think about it the only parameter you can't fix with a scissors is the diameter of that solid center piece, though if you were in a jamb, you could shave it down to size. Shaving off the protruding flexible fasteners on one side will not be noticeable in any way. It'll still stick just fine. I am answering this post with a fast and loose kind of writing. Don't think modifying these guys will diminish the fastener's effectiveness, it will not and you'll be OK.

Hope this helps.

I got these from jagbits. I got both the male and female and ordered a few extras to keep around just in case.
