Hi Guys
I,m a new member and new to the XK8 (had her only 1 week) its a 1998 convertable and the drivers door window does not automatically close after exiting the car and locking it, any ideas as to the problem please.

Do you mean the automatic window drop/lift on opening/closing the door?

If so, it is often the first sign of a failing battery. Alternatively, if the battery has been partially discharged, the window travel limit switches may need resetting.

Reset the window with the door closed by holding the up/down switch in both directions until you hear a faint click, do this twice to be sure. This will reset the travel limits, if you still have an issue report back.

 

As I was told when I first came here. Do a search for your issue's, lots of threads out there on a lot.
I would have your battery load tested, below 12.3 I think, is considered a weak battery (even through car starts fine, etc) as the MANY electronic components on this car like a HEALTHY battery.

 

Thanks to all that replied so quickly, it would seem that the fault was caused by a battery problem as 3 days after buying the car the battery went flat and would not hold a charge, have now fitted a new one so will reset the travel limit switches and hope this cures the problem. once again thank you.
