Default Dumb headlight question

How can I tell if I have the headlight washers or HID lights vs the standard halogens?

I have a 2005 XK8 and took a rock to the right headlight. Trying to figure out what to order to fix it.

Pretty sure I don't have headlight washers, no apparent switch or anything I have seen.

Thanks all!

My 97 has headlight washers but they do not have a separate switch. The headlight washers work in tandem with the windshield washers. If you have an owners manual their function is described there.
My 97 is pre HID era so I can’t help you there other than to say that an HID lamp
has a rather distinctive look to it with a small quartz arc envelope inside of a glass surround. The bulb will have a cable running off of it that leads to an HID ballast.

On a 2005 I'd expect Headlights washers and HID but with Jaguar specifications varying across World markets you never know so it's as well to check.

Washers are the simplest to check. If fitted, they replace the half moon blanking trim at the base of the headlights. This is my 2005 XK8 with washers and HID's:

The telescopic washer nozzle unit operates with the windshield washers when the ignition switch is in position II and the headlamp switch is in the dip or main beam position. When the powerwash pump is activated, the nozzle units under fluid pressure, extend forward approximately 3 inches and commence the wash cycle. The wash cycle consists of two short pulses separated by a six second delay. To conserve washer fluid, headlamp powerwash only functions on every sixth operation of the windshield wash switch.

A vehicle fitted with HID's can be identified by the presence of a ballast and leveling module:

I don't have a photo of the engine compartment showing the headlamps but think I'm correct in recalling the levelling modules are visible at the back of the headlamp units.

If you have his headlights wouldn't the bulb give it away? I've got xenon on my car (aftermarket addition). Looking at the profile of the bulb, you can see an insulated high voltage wire running parallel to the bulb casing. This attaches to the tip of the bulb and transmits high volt electricity to get the bulb started.

FWIW I read that all HID lights need the washer due to laws in one of the country. Think that article mentioned that jaguar added the washer to all HID config.

you could order separate washer with normal lights, mine came with it.

I hope this will spark conversation of confirmation of my points.

Thanks all, turns out I have the washers and the HID. It was a real joy to remove, especially that bottom bolt. But the glass was totally shattered, have to go find a replacement...

Here's the relevant P/N's:

Several of the supplier websites I've checked are showing these as non stock items subject to availability from Jaguar. Jaguar are showing as not available:

www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/part/C2N2469

You may have to search for a used item.
