I recently install a re-built ECM from ATE and have had some trouble with an “yellow” “Eng Fault” alarm. Talking with ATE’s tech support they sent me the “Installation of Rebuilt ECU” instructions (see below). Has anyone ever done this? Could a JAG TECH on this forum please comment to this? Thanks

After re-connecting the battery:
Reset clock
On XK8 vehicles, reset the window position memory
Perform the Engine Control Module (ECM) adaptation sequence.

ECM Adaptation
To expedite the adaptive learning process for some functions of the ECM, perform the following procedure:
WARNING: Perform this procedure with the vehicle on a firm surface (not a lift) after ensuring that no danger exists to surrounding personnel or property.
CAUTION: do not exceed the engine speeds and time durations listed.
1. Engage P and allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
2. Press the A/C button to turn climate control off.
3. Apply the service and parking brakes, move the transmission selector to D.
4. Allow the engine to idle for an additional 2 minutes.
5. Gradually raise the engine speed to 950 RPM. Hold this speed for 45 seconds.
6. Raise the engine speed to 1200 RPM. Hold for 45 seconds.
7. Raise the engine speed to 1500 RPM. Hold for 30 seconds.
8. Allow the engine to return to idle. Move the selector lever to P and switch off the engine.

Have you cleared the latest MIL by chance?

 

The only MIL I receive is the yellow light not the red. The display will read “ENGINE FAULT” When this happens, the cruise control power on/off LED goes out and the cruise will not work. Everything else seems to fine. Engine runs fine. If I scan for codes all I get is P1000, no other codes. Turning the car off and re-starting clears the MIL and “ENGINE FAULT” goes away.

 

If it were me, i'd either do the hard reset, or drive for another 30days or so to see if the yellow light clears itself.

Let us know if it remedies itself.

 

Thanks H2O, good advice. Time just might cure this problem. I am curious why this disables the Cruise. The tech with ATE said that the cruise issues are not controlled by the ECU.?????
