ECU Chips
Has anyone had the opportunity to buy and install an ECU chip for an XK8?
I am curious as to how easy it is to do, what brand is recommended, and how effective it was in delivering more power.
Thanks

Hello,
i ve understood the xk 8 can be chipped without another chip.
I don t know the pro s and cons even as the ins and outs but if you can find a Jag specialist with an Autologic testing unit for Jaguar he can do the trick for you.
Its only programming so they told me and "Bob s yur oncle"
I hope this was useful for you, regards,
Fred

I think you'll find any microprocessor has more than one chip, unless the pcb. is super mass-produced in multi millions, and that's usually for the tv and games industry. If you mean the flash memory, you don't change them unless faulty. If you wish to change the resident program, you simply "re-flash" it with the desired program. Then you hit the problem of intellectual property, and MONEY! That's why a reflash almost always costs.

@Fred,
I thought the autologioc one can only (performance) tune the diesel ECUs, not the Denso ones for the XK8/R. Or can they? With the standard WDS/IDS you can also tune the ECU (so basically any dealer can upload a new tune). But you still need a very knowledgeable tuner that can alter the right maps which are located on these units, and these are scarce.
@Paul,
Not sure if it will bring you anything on a 8 (its already very low on a standard XKR), it will be very expensive for very little gains. Like Brutal said you can send your ECU of tuners. I think the best bang for the buck for XK8s is to use the K&N panel filter and a bigger exhaust. That will also not bring you lots of horses (read just a little) but the extra sound will at least give you more sensation of the power you already have.
