Default Email saying NAVTEQ actually released a map update!

I got an email last week from the previous owner of my XK8 letting me know Jaguar emailed him saying NAVTEQ came out with a new map update! Apparently you can get from either the dealer or NAVTEQ directly, so am going to contact me dealer when I get back in town.

Anyone else get this email or can validate it? Curious if it will be covered by select warranty, or if not, how much they will want for it.

Gonna say thats a big tease from navteq. If u check on their website, you'll see the lack of new maps.

I have an 07 XK and found out I had an old map, it did not even have all the states so it was usless on my recent trip accross lower US. When I got back home I phoned my Jag dealer and they gave me the web address to NAVTEQ. They told me to buy from them or else I would pay a mark up cost. Went to the site and purchased the 2010-11 update map for $199.00 + 29.00 for shipping. It will take 3 days for delivery. I have no warranty and the maps are not from Jag so I doubt if they ever are a warranty item.

Yes, they have them for 2007 and newer. The older cars are out of luck.

A cheaper option is to run the video from the Garmin GVN 53 into a video switch that splices the original nav leads, then run the audio from the GVN to your amp and its mute lead to the existing deck. Use the remote with the GVN to do all the functions...and no worry about it having to be 'parked' to input an address or do a search for the nearest restaurant. Parts price - $500, roughly...install, maybe $200-300 on top of that. Done, and affordable map updates ($80 and comes preinstalled on an SD card) for as long as Garmin is in business.

Ba$stards. I told my wife when buying this car this was the one item that would take away from the classic nature of this car, since new electronics are the first things to look out of date on modern cars.

Not sure who I blame most for this: Jaguar, Alpine, or NAVTEQ. I do blame Jaguar for not even able to keep straight which cars their customers own

I think it may have been the relationship between Alpine and Navteq that caused the split. Sorry doug, but there are other options to get nav use out of your screen. Check out the 'swapping out nav for gauges' thread. You can even replace that factory screen with a touchscreen unit and go aftermarket navigation system to it. It just costs a little more than the $600 2004 Navteq map disk they produced for the 97-2006 systems.

Went to the navteq website and the update is for 2007 and newer.
I'm using a Nuvi 715 with office putty to stick over the old screen.
I works but it sucks.

I did something similar, but instead of mounting it on top of the existing nav screen I removed the old nav unit and installed a Garmin 1490t (5 inch display) behind the wood. I spliced into the existing power wiring, so the Garmin automatically powered up when I started the car and powered down when I turned it off. It worked great! I removed it a couple of months ago when I was thinking about selling, but I changed my mind so I've been meaning to reinstall it.

Here's a pic of the 1490t installed. I was planning on putting some fancy speaker grills with fabric over the holes on either side where the buttons used to be, but I never got around to it. The small gap on either side of the display is barely noticeable in the car. Something about the picture makes it stand out.
