Default Engine code help

Hi everyone, hope we are all doing well.
I need some help on some engine codes I have coming up on my 2000 XKR. the engine fires up, runs for about 5 seconds then dies.
I ran the engine coeds and got two, a P1642 and a P1797, I was wondering if anyone knows what items to actually look at replacing when these codes come up. I'm running out of options to look at to get the beast running again before I have to venture to the dealership.

thanks for any help

wade

I believe both codes refer to a communication error in the CAN circuit between the ECU and TCU. Hopefully, some one with more expertise will be along soon.

I am sure our own forum experts will chime in but here is some info from an internet search.

P1797 is a "Neutral Switch Circuit Malfunction". Looks like checking the battery and the battery power cable and ground cable would be the first place to start. The switch for the gear shifter would be the second place I would look. Jac

Thanx, Steve. Now that I know what code P1642 is, can you advise where to start to remedy it? I will be getting a OBD II scanner and a multimeter soon, but don't have either as yet.
