Engine coolant
I've got a 1999 XK8 convertible that had a coolant leak in the past. The leak was repaired, the coolant all replaced by a Jaguar specialist (not dealer). Since that time (less than 5 months), the coolant was low and I added "regular" Peak 50/50 coolant to the tank (probably less than two cups). So, do I need to flush and refill with the orange stuff??? Advice, please! Thanks!
The easy answer is to go by what Jaguar specifies, so check the book. Jaguar has changed spec over time, so double check what applies to your car:
Vehicle Spec Book
Once you know what should be in there (basically green or orange), compare with what is already there. Best case, it is the same, and you can temporarily top up with the same. Keep in mind these fluids should never be mixed because the combination forms a gel that can clog everything. Worst case, it does not match, so a complete flush is required.
Separately, keep a close eye on this coolant level. Maybe the mechanic did not properly "burp" the system after the repair and this is a one-time thing, but chances are you have a leak somewhere. I would encourage you to keep track of it, these cars do not do well when overheated.
Best of luck, keep us posted.
