Default Engine coolant low

I am getting the "engine coolant low" indication when I 1st start my 2001 XKR. After the engine is running for a few mins (3,4...) the warning light and msg goes away. I have looked under the hood and can not locate where I can check and/or add coolant. I am a new Jaguar owner and would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Thanks MEPJag

Welcome to the forum MEPJag,

I've moved your question from the end of a very old thread in General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. Look for a black plastic tank towards the rear of the engine compartment on the left side. It has a plastic screw cap that you remove for filling.

The intercooler also has a plug on top with a 19mm hex socket which should also be removed to bleed the air out. You probably don't have a key to fit that, but you can buy a bolt and two nuts the proper size, jam the nuts together and use that with a wrench to remove the plug.

The fluid that you lost had to go somewhere, and the best way to find the leak is with a pressure test kit that you should be able to borrow from a parts store, or find a repair shop that can do the testing.

I'd try pouring in half a cup of distilled water - it might solve the problem entirely. Obviously that amount of water won't change the overall coolant-to-water mix ratio. And don't open the screw cap when the engine is hot.

The above two have it spot on, I'll add if you are new to Jaguar and found this forum it would be to your benefit to read the DIY sticky in the top of the forum
whether you'll be doing your own work or not. It will provide you will valuable information on issues with our cars and what may pop up and answer questions you may have. There also are links there for the owners and service manuals to help.
