Default Engine fault 1997 XK8

I finally fixed my transmission problem. It was the TCM. Took the car for a test drive and all went well. About a mile from home I decided to give it full throttle to see how the trans would handle it. After the shift to third at the redline I got an engine fault light with reduced performance. Came home and unhooked the battery and put the pos and neg together to try and reset the computer. I left it that way for 5 minutes. Hooked her back up and still have the engine fault light. Was that long enough to reset the computer? The engine sounds fine, but you can tell its at reduced performance. I just replaced the secondary chain tensioners before the test drive.

Your reset was OK. You really need to read the OBDII codes to get a clue as to the reason for the reduced performance.
