I understand the engine's number is near the thermostat. Is it raised cast into the metal or is it ink stamped onto the engine?

I found some ink stamped numbers on the driver's side of the stat housing, I'll need a mirror to be able to read all of them. I'm a short guy and I have to climb into the engine bay to see the numbers with a flashlight.

 

Your friendly neighborhood Jaguar dealer can give you the engine number by looking up the VIN.
