Default Engine Temp/ Ultragauge

Since installing my Ultragauge I have had little time for checking the temp, replacing the tensioners and gearbox faults taking precedence. But it does appear to be reading 201- 203 F, which seems high. I wonder if other users have seen temps this high?

I'm typically around 199 - 200 while driving, and can go up to 204 in traffic. You're fine.

BTW, stay tuned for a STELLAR temp-gauge upgrade from forum member WhiteXKR.

I use the Utra Gauge very well. You will find some interesting spikes and drops.

Our engine temps will vary greatly.

mexk8, you got that right. I believe they read mid scale to about 240 F, and if you are losing coolant it is likely too late by the time it hits red. I think whitekxr also said the oil gauge reads center at anything over 5 lbs.

Are you referring to the three instrument cluster or the main instruments behind the steering?

I dont have the cluster - have a BS nav system instead. I am hoping that my temp gauge might be slightly useful. Perhaps I am overly demanding?

That's the only temp gauge we all have. The three other gauges are oil, clock and volts. The only one I believe is the clock, although the voltmeter might be real.

The Folly of the Temperature Gauge

Our resident electronics wizard, WhiteXKR, has a well-designed and reasonably-priced upgrade coming. Worth waiting for.

I am glad you are pleased with it!

As some of you might have surmised, The Coupe is kindly testing out a pre-production model while I get production of these ramped up.

Yes, it simply displays the true coolant temperature, instead of the temperature as 'censored' by the factory computer.

The factory gauges are small stepper motors controlled by a computer chip in the instrument cluster electronics.

With my mod, I give straighforward instructions on disconnecting the factory coolant (and optionally the oil pressure) gauges from the instrument cluster board and plugging them into a tiny custom microcomputer board I designed.

For the coolant temperature, no additional sensors are needed...the actual temperature is available digitally at the instrument cluster for my computer to read and display on the gauge.

For the oil pressure option, I include an oil pressure sensor and adapter that mounts near the oil filter, since our cars only have a low pressure switch, not a true oil pressure sensor.

Well that sounds like perfection.
