Engine Wiring Harness

Engine Wiring Harness
Hello Gents and Ladies...
When I did my tensioners and plugs (thanks to all for great info) one of the plastic connectors to the coil pack kinda disintegrated - so when I was done had a severe "miss" and thought the connector may be the problem. Took the car to an indy that has a good reputation...indy says needs a whole new wiring harness as 1) connectors hard to find (knew that from this site) and 2) at the back towards the firewall the harness is pretty much dried and rotted after all these years...
All that stands to reason - the "kicker" is he says that Jag is running a new batch of the wiring harnesses - will be done in several weeks - and when that happens parts and labor to install will be a little over $5K...
Would appreciate thoughts on this.....thanks

huum, he want's to sell you a whole new wiring harness? Jag is running a new batch of wiring harnesses??????? Sound all strange to me. Seems to me you find a connector off a junker, and have someone splice it in to where ever you have a bad one.
Please keep us posted on this one!

I use a little dab of high temp RTV to secure mine when the tabs break off
But if the plug is crumbling that won't work. Perhaps some JB Weld could be used.
I know of another car on which the plug fell apart, so we slipped the connectors on and wrapped with high temp electrical tape.

As a victim of early '80's Volvo evaporating wiring harness insulation I know of the problems. I am not having this problem with the current car's coil pack connectors (yet) but envision that they can be repaired with a few hardware store connectors.
My brother showed up with a Jeep Climate Control system that did not work and I found the connector to control panel connections pretty well burned up. Local dealer wanted over $800 for harness and control unit. Repaired with $4 of Ace's finest connectors and a crimp tool.
