Default Error Codes P0117 and P1229 - 1997 XK8 won't stay running

Has anyone experienced a car that performed perfectly one day, then the next the car won't stay running? Error codes P0117 and P1229, dash warnings: Engine Fault, Stability Control Failure, Poor vehicle performance.

Additional info: Drove the car from AZ to Chicago without a hitch. 2 days later on a local trip, car shudders and dies. Will restart and will run briefly, then start running rough and eventually quits.

Because of P0117 error, replaced the coolant temp sensor. No difference. P1229 code indicates throttle body circuit problem. Disconnected all wire harnesses, sprayed with electrical connection cleaner, reassembled. No better.

Finally replaced the Throttle Body with one from identical car which was running perfectly. No better.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

The next thing to check is the fuel pressure. The pump may be failing. when the engine quits, put a towel under the schrader valve on the fuel rail and depress the pin. You should get a healthy spurt of fuel.

Delirious

If replacing TB and temp sensor didn't help matters its
a short in the circuit
Somewhere ..........
Wiring schematic will help track it back to where I might be coming from

Btw both those items use same wire to talk the same pin on the ECU hmmm.......

The cheap and easy is to totally clean, I mean hose down, the plug in connections on the throttle body. There are 2, get contact cleaner and then clip back. Worked for me.

UPDATE: Cleaned and rechecked all wiring harnesses to no avail. Brought to a local shop which works on imports. Everything checked out okay so they looked at the ECM. It had 3 blackened spots on the circuit board. Purchased a replacement from Specialized ECU Repair in Oakland Park, FL. For the '97 XK8 it's plug in and play, no reprogramming. Swapped out the ECM's and runs perfectly. Not sure of the cause? Cost was $350 for the ECM.

Glad you got it fixed. ASI in TN also rebuilds/repairs the ECU's for a bit less money. You could send the old one to them and have a spare or sell it to someone that needs it.
