Hi kendowen,
1. Please put the year and model (XK8/XKR, convertible/coupe) in your signature (User CP). It helps the rest of us when answering questions specific to your car.
2. The escutcheon is a weak point and has been discussed in several posts. If you can find one from a forum classifieds ad or wrecking yard (parting out car), etc., in any colour, grab it and paint it.
3. I remember someone posting that they had reproduced one using a 3D printer.
4. Please let the rest of us know what your end result is.
