Default Everything "coming loose" an issue?

So, I gave my daughter a 1983 XJ6, and as astute members will notice I just bought a 2002 XKR. It seems that the biggest similarities between the 2 is that various things seem to simply come loose after awhile- the XJ6 with steering and transmission linkage and the XKR (so far- it's only been 2 weeks) with the steering linkage. My daughter now carries the proper tool and is able to crawl under to fix the issue as it sometimes happens on the road... Loctite doesn't seem to do anything.

Is this... various things coming loose... a chronic problem with Jag in general?

In the seven years I have had mine, I have never had that happen. Are you sure it's been torqued to the proper spec?

Could you be a little more specific ? I'm curious what steering linkage under the car is coming loose. It sounds dangerous. I might want to check mine ;^)

Once a fastener is over torqued, it will constantly loosen. The only cure is to replace the fastener. Note too that mismatched threads often have the same issue with not holding tight.

Uh oh !

2 weeks into 2002 XKR ownership and the steering linkage coming loose ?

I’m nearly 7 years into my 2002 XKR ownership and I’ve never checked my steering linkage “tightness”.

please post a photo and / or detailed description before I drive off the road. The life you save will be mine.

Only half kidding ! What gives here ?

Z
