Jaguar XJ6 1996 Steering Column problems
hello everyone, I just signed up to this, and I had a question. I have a 1996 XJ6, and I bought the car with a loose steering column. I bought another one used off of ebay hoping to be tight and it was loose as well. I took it to a local private shop that only works on jaguars and tey said that all of these type of jagaurs are like this, where they all have play in the wheel. I dont know if its true? Does anyone know? I am looking at one on ebay now, and the guy told me that he had no problems that his is tight. Can it be in the gearbox or something else? Please let me know, thank you!

RE: Jaguar XJ6 1996 Steering Column problems
when i shake my steering wheel up the column is loose. Also when I shae from sides to sides its a little loose, but not as loose as up. When I put the tilt all the way down its less loose almost tight all the way but not quite, but as soon as I raise the tilt its more loose again. I know it dosent affect the car performance its just annoying, please help, thanks.

I found a fix for the loose steering column. Move the steering column tilt all the way in the upward position untill the motor stops. Then remove the two torx screws under the column by the tilt motor shaft. Pull down after removing screws and push steering wheel up as far as it will go and push up on the loose piece so the gears can be set correctly and then tighting the torx screws. Complete
