Default Factory Coolant Question 04 XKR

My 04 has 15K miles but is going on 11 years old. I want to change out the coolant with a simple drain and refill. Can someone advise me as to what brand and specification of coolant was used for 04? Also where I can buy it other than the dealers. All that I can find is the Jag Part Number?

I want to use the same coolant as original to avoid contamination by mixing.

Please don''t suggest Dex-Cool, Ive seen that chew up head gaskets.

Thanks, Jim

The coolant must comply with WSS M97B44–D spec as per the owner's manual. Choose which ever brand you like.

+1

Brand isn't important - Specification is.

Plenty of brands meet the Jaguar recommended WSS M97B44–D specification for extended life OAT (Organic Acid Technology) coolant.

Rather confusingly, not all brands meeting the specification are coloured orange!

It's the only assurance that two different products are compatible and are capable of doing the job.

Otherwise it's kinda like shopping for shoes only by colour and style and not caring about the size.

If you mix coolants of different specs, you risk winding up with gelled globs in your coolant, a sure-fire way to eventually kill your engine....

If you are unsure of what coolant is in the vehicle then drain and back flush.

With any new (to me) car, the very first maintenance I do regardless of what the service history shows is to change engine oil, oil filter and coolant so I know exactly what's in it and have a baseline for future scheduled maintenance.

You are correct. What I'm aiming at is a baseline, changing the coolant, brake fluid, possibly power steering and supercharger oil.

Thanks, Jim

I think I will wait for a little better weather and have it back flushed then be sure of not mixing old with new. Thanks, Jim

Well when I got my car it had the "ORANGE" stuff in it. I have been just putting in the Orange stuff, Dexacool, of the same color. I have had my system open and emptied through all my cooling system repairs I can say that is all is in it at this point.

Google DexCool gasket failures and cooling system problems. I've seen many GM cooling systems, head and intake gaskets destroyed by that stuff. GM lost lawsuits relating to DexCool ... Not im my Cat!

I thought all of that was in the early days of those cars with it in it. Not so much anymore. that stuff has been around for a LONG time now.
