Fail Safe....
Searched threads and didn't see my senario anywhere so....I drove from NC to Florida and back this week and when I got down there the "RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE ENGINE IN SAFE MODE" message came up in green in the big cat's "current threat" message box. Car kept driving fine. First time I'd seen that one. Turned off and restarted engine, and no message appeared. Drove a couple of hours around town, message comes back on, car has not skipped a beat the whole time, normal acceleration, shifting, etc. This time I get out code reader and get 1000 and 1645. Clear codes and turn off/restart engine and car drives fine. Drive back home few days later, same thing happens every time I drive car, no perf issues, switch off and back on, message goes away. The only thing that doesn't work is the cruise control when the message is displayed. Cruise works after I restart and message goes away.
Any ideas?

1645 is Evap Solenoid Output Circuit. P1000 is a normal code. You'll always get either P1000 or P1111.
I just started a new thread with all of the codes identified. Here's a link to that thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...336#post265336
I had initially put all of the codes in this reply, but I thought they deserved their own thread.

The P1645 is not anything that would cause the "Restricted Performance" message. There may be something to that fault, but it isn't the major concern. I think it's possible there is a fault your code reader can't see. There is a "corporate code" that doesn't fall into the generic category and a lot of devices can't read it. The symptoms you describe match perfectly to a fault P1571, which is for the brake pedal switch. The restricted message comes up because the system needs the brake pedal switch for things like the traction control and ABS. The cruise doesn't work because the system says, "if the pedal switch doesn't work I'm not going to engage the cruise 'cause I don't know if the guy ever steps on the brake". The fact you have to drive a while before the thing returns fits the pattern, too. I could be wrong, but the symptoms sure fit.

Well, it's agreed then, I'll have it replaced next week! Thanks xjrguy, Gus, Sam. I knew you guys would know!
At least the computers didn't hijack my engine performance when I was in Fla!
Is the 1571 evap solinoid something to deal with, or just a nuisance code? Sounds like more fuel tank pressure hysteria!

I got turned around on that. 1645 is the evap solinoid. 1571 is the brake switch, which I'll replace. I did get a 1645 code when I used the code reader/resetter, so I'm wondering what the evap solinoid is and if it's important. Sounds like something to do with the evap system in the fuel tank/system, which has notoriously hyper sensitive sensors. I'll just ignore it!

Have had very few the past year or so, what a relief! And it's always the same ones when I do....plug misfire or some kind of evap issue. At least I have a weapon to fight them now!

Sounds good, Gus. Good luck with the move. Congrats on being a Moderator! They made a great choice!
