Cool Failsafe Engine Mode/ASC & Trac Not Avialable Warnings

My 2001 Jaguar XKR Silverstone has had the above problem several times now while driving. for no apparent reason it will randomly go into Failsafe Engine Mode showing three warnings Failsafe Engine Mode/ASC Not Avialable/Trac Not Avialable. I have to pull over, put in park, turn off engine, and restart. Works fine after that, until the next time.

Doese anyone know what the cause is, and how to fix it?

welcome one guy, I'd first dive into the FAQ thread in this sub-section of the forum, there's many threads and posts about that gammut of error messages, most likely ABS module related (worse case) or could be wheel speed sensors...Do some intense research in that FAQ and where it points you, and you'll learn a lot from other's diagnosis and their eventual success.

I had a smilar problem except I did not get the failsafe code. The solution for me was to replace th edrivers side ABS wheel sensor. I suggest getting the codes pulled to see what it is as fixing stuff like this can get very parts-expensive without testing.

One guy,

I have had this happen on two cars, and on both cars in the end it was the brakelight switch, which you can buy used on ebay for about fifty bucks. It is a bear standing on your head to replace it by feel, because I can't quite fit in the footwell upside down to see. There is a thread somewhere that explains why this is the fix, but I know it worked twice for me.

Just to add another "could be" to the spiders web regarding this fault, have the same year as you and did have same problem, thought it was when i,d been useing cruise control a lot but that could have been a red herring, anyway my fix was to spray multi-connector on throttle body with electrical contact cleaner.... Haven,t had problem for 2yrs now but it is part of my maintenance too do,s now

Eureka! Found the problem. Consulted many experts, they all said it was the throttle body sensor, and that you had to replace the whole throttle body because they do not sell the sensor by itself. I bought a used throttle body w/ sensor from a wrecking yard for $350.00. First I replaced just the sensor and that did nothing, so I replaced the entire throttle body with sensor and that did the trick. Runs great!
