transmission identification on a 97 xk8

hi i have an 97 xk8 that im parting out with the last 6 of vin 001480 and a gentleman wants the trans he has a 98 xk8 but he doesnt know if the trans is the same any help so i could sell this part would be helpful. ive checked a trans link on here that says its the same but he said all data has a different trans for my year than his which i dont think is true PLEASE HELP ME

As far as I,m aware should be the same ZF5HP24, supercharged has the Mercedes box, ask him why do,s he think it.s different?

he says that mine has thezf4hp24e which ive never heard of in a jag xk8 because they started in 97 am i right

The ZF 4HP24 was used in the 4.0 'straight six' cars. The V8 has never used the 4HP24

You have a ZF 5HP24 and they will all interchange (1997 to 2002 XK8 and 1998 to 2003 XJ8) but the Rotary Switch on the selector shaft might have different part numbers between the AJ26 and AJ27 units. I have installed a 1998 gearbox in a 2000 XJ8 and no problems at all. I did swap the rotary switch to be sure it was compatible.
