Default A few little problems....

Hi,
I was wondering if anyones 4.0L V8 has squeaky belts when you first start it up on cold. My car is not terrible but it does squeak. Is it just from the cold, or could it be something else? It used to go away when the engine was completely warmed up but it does not anymore since it has been so cold lately.

My car also sits for weeks at a time without being started. Has a trickle charger on it, but it still takes about 10 cranks before it finally turns over. Is that normal?

Also kind of random but my parking brake will pull up and it feels like there is pressure there, but it immediately drops to the floor as i release it and then the parking brake does not engage. What could be wrong.

Thanks,
Mike

1) very common problem. You can try a couple of things to resolve it. A belt conditioner spray, which is easy but hit or miss. While the engine is idling, hold some scotch brite against the belt to clean it off (but watch you fingers). Get a new belt, which is the surest way.

2) 10 seems like a lot, but do you have any trouble if the car has run in the last few days?

3) The lever should drop back to the floor when engaged, that is normal. Hard to say without a more specific description, but it could be rusted cables or the adjuster inside the read brake discs being stuck.

Thanks,

I am guessing one of your two fuel pumps has failed. See https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...el-pump-85882/ for testing directions.

These cars have two fuel pumps? I was not aware of that. After initially started it starts within the first few cranks. But I guess that would make sense since there is fuel still In there. Do you have a part number for a fuel pump. Are both the same?
Thanks for your help!

The parts catalog is online on various sites and a free download on here (JEPC). Often its pics are really useful - as well as the numbers.

Yes, they are identical. Welsh Enterprises has an economical aftermarket pump that has been reported to be a good replacement at a good price.
