1. What is the red light in the driver's side air vent? It seems to turn on briefly and match a 'ding' on startup.
2. What does the Valet button do?
3. What does the knob next to the Valet button do? It's broken off, but appears to have about 300* of turn to it.

Judging from the red light and knob I suspect you have an aftermarket radar or alarm installed.

The Valet button disables the trunk latch to keep people out. There should be a green key to give the valet. Mine went missing and I disconnected the Valet feature.

 

Yep, no green key came with the car- looks like I have two switches to disconnect.

Interesting if that's an aftermarket detector switch... I have a V1 detector.

 

Spurlee, you were right! I met the previous owner (Cerberus66) today, and he confirmed that's a K40 system. Glad I didn't disconnect it! Will probably play with/relocate the receiver behind the grille and keep this intact after looking up more on the specifics of what I have here. That's what the light in the air vent is for as well. Very cool.

I do not have the valet key either, but I use the valet button all the time. Once engaged, the trunk can only be opened if the black key is put into the ignition to disable the valet mode.

This is very useful if you want to leave your top down in the parking lot for a quick run into the store or wherever and not worry about any valuables in the trunk.

However, you will get some funny stares when the door lock chirps to set the alarm and you walk away with the top down.
