Default Foam Gremlins?

Okay, the title is very odd...but so is my issue...

I got home from work on Friday and parked my 2002 XKR in the driveway. On sunday afternoon, I took the family out for a drive and opened the car to get my sunglasses out. Much to my shock, there was a disbursement of scattered small dark grey foam bits all over my seat and emergency brake. I hurredly checked everything...roof liner, seats, door panels...nothing was damaged.

I have no clue where these pieces of foam came from, or even what they're from. I don't know how they got there...being that it was over 100 degrees all weekend, any small critter would have cooked in the car, and besides that, I don't know how any mouse (etc) could have gotten into the car. My kids know not to touch my car, so I've ruled them out too...the keys weren't touched all weekend.

Strange? Anyone know where they might use soft dark grey foam in an XKR? I plan to keep checking for damage, but I have yet to see any...which kind of makes me worried...stuff like this just doesn't APPEAR out of nowhere!

Its the foam seals in the HVAC ductwork. Each little door has foam on it.

I have seen the grey foam around a wiring harness in the trunk near the CD changer (pull the carpet away from the CD changer to see it). In my 2001 it was disintegrating from age/heat.

Hmmmm...I think you might be onto something. I'll check them later today and see. Still not sure how they would get all over the side of the seat without the car being on though. I'll keep poking and prodding!

Yah, the little doors have foam, probably to keep them quiet when opening n shutting, I had to pull a few small strips out thru the vents when I got the car. As long as they don't whistle, you should be fine. Run the fans on high to get most of it out of the vents.

... and for me, when I found these tiny bits of gray foam all over the front ... it was the disintegrated edge material on the cheap windshield sun screen I was using.

For once, an easy and cheap fix.

I live in Western New York State -- Yep, south of Buffalo, NY. So I don't have any problems with heat disintegrating the foam. Cold on the other hand...
