Fog Light Button on/off indication light
2005 XKR: My front fog light button indicator light (little red light on the button itself) does not illuminate when the front fog lights are on. The rear fog light illumination light on its button does come on, as do all the other little red on/off indicator lights on that row of buttons (DSC off, heated seats, warning flasher). The button does turn the actual front fog lights on/off, it's just that the tiny red light on the button itself doesn't come on so you can't tell if the front fog lights are on or not in the daytime. I bought a used row of lights from a reputable jaguar parts dealer and replaced that row, but the front fog light indicator on the USED part doesn't work either (all the other little red indicator lights on the used one do work). I'm guessing it's not just a coincidence that only that one light doesn't work on both my original and used part. I checked the pins on the connection to the harness, and didn't see an obvious issue, and I doubt there's a fuse that controls just that one tiny light. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help.
The fog light indicator lights on the button do in fact have a different fuse to the fog lights themselves, but if one is working and the other isn't, then the fuse is ok. It sounds like there is a break in the harness between the switchpack and the fog light relay coil - the BPM grounds the coil to turn the fog lights on. This ground signal also grounds the LED on the switch to turn it on. Get the wiring diagram for your car, identify the pin on the switchpack connector and try grounding it to see if the LED comes on. If it does you know the fault is somewhere in that wire to the BPM/relay.
